London gets the Gold for Sustainability

The 2012 London Olympics are fast approaching with opening ceremony being this Friday, July 27th, and to prepare, London has certainly made a way for the greenest Games to date. In the once dilapidated and neglected area of east London, now stands sparkling new stadiums and pristine visitor facilities all settled in 500 acres of lush landscaped grounds.

David Stubbs, head of sustainability for the London 2012 Games believes that sustainability was a key reason why London was chosen and provides a golden opportunity to show what can be achieved.

“If you can put sustainability at the heat of a project which is the largest logistical exercise in peace time — across 26 different sports, with thousands of people attending and millions watching — then you can do it anywhere,” Stubbs said.
