Romania’s Prefab PRISPA Solar Decathlon House Produces 20% More Energy Than it Uses

With the upcoming Solar Decathlon Europe 2012 rapidly approaching the design from the Romanian team is generating a lot of buzz with event attendees. The bold project to create a home that produces 20% more energy than it uses is the very first entry in the Solar Decathlon competition from a team out of Romania.

Taking a simple approach the team from Romania decided to use existing technologies in new and innovative ways. The prefabricated PRISPA house features photovoltaic panels for energy production and panels featuring thermal insulation. Utilizing engineered wood along with regular timber and steel the team was able to take advantage of locally sourced materials to limit environmental impact as well as cost.
